🧬 How Gelatin Supports Gut Healing:
1. High in Collagen & Amino Acids
Gelatin is derived from collagen and is rich in amino acids like:
-
Glycine: Supports mucosal integrity and has anti-inflammatory properties.
-
Proline & Glutamine: Critical for cellular regeneration and gut lining repair.
These amino acids are essential for rebuilding and sealing the gut lining, which is often damaged in leaky gut.
2. Improves Mucosal Barrier Function
Gelatin may enhance the production of gastric mucus, protecting the stomach and intestinal lining from inflammation and acid damage—important in healing a compromised gut barrier.
3. Aids Digestion
It binds to water and helps food move more easily through the digestive tract, which supports nutrient absorption and reduces irritation to the gut wall.
4. Anti-Inflammatory Effects
Glycine in gelatin has been shown to reduce inflammation systemically and locally in the gut, which is essential in calming autoimmune or inflammatory gut conditions like leaky gut.
5. Supports Microbiome Balance
Emerging research suggests gelatin may indirectly support the gut microbiota by:
-
Enhancing gut lining integrity (preventing pathogenic bacteria from entering the bloodstream)
-
Creating a more stable gut environment for beneficial microbes.
